So, it is possible that you are wondering what made me decide to spend my time asking strangers about their lives. Here is the answer:

A few years ago I discovered the blog Humans of New York. I was so fascinated by what this blog was doing and the powerful stories it shared that I decided to use it as a focus for my senior thesis. I looked around and found that many other blogs were operating on the similar concept that everyone has a story.

For my thesis project, I not only wanted to study this trend in journalism, but I also wanted to put it into practice. I wanted to know just how difficult it is to convince strangers to open up to you. Before this blog, I had only ever interviewed people during a properly scheduled interviews. This project allows me to explore the constraints and challenges present when interviewing strangers.

While I wanted to do something similar for HONY, I didn't just want to replicate the concept. Plus, my town isn't as ideal as New York is for that type of project. Instead, I decided to incorporate my love for travel into my blog. Thus, In Transit was born.

In Transit, explores the stories and lives of people who are waiting in areas of transit. Why are they there? Who are they waiting on? Where are they headed? These are some of the questions my interviews attempt to answer as I turn my attention to the people who are sitting still in areas of bustling commotion.
